KYW Newsradio 1060 - The Blizzard of 1983

KYW Newsradio 1060 Philadelphia reports the Blizzard snowstorm of 1983. THE CORRECT DATE FOR THIS AIRCHECK IS FEBRUARY 11, 1983. One viewer FACETHETRADE wrote to me the following about the Blizzard of 1983: "No one should forget that blizzard, technically it was the last one true full blown blizzard to hit NY and the Eastern seaboard. Actually since 1947, there were only 2 that were of that magnitude,1978 and 1983. The 1996 one didn't qualify and the rest have been cupcakes from the '83 one. The qualifications haven't been met since 1983: Criteria are: 1) Heavy snow 2 inches or more an hour 2) SUSTAINED winds of over 35 mph, not gusts but sustained 3) 20 degree Farenheit temperature or UNDER. None after 1983 qualified. They all missed at least one of these. The weather men are schmucks always saying this one was a blizzard. NO TRUE. Also to have a true blue blizzard, it's alot like a winter hurricane. The jet stream has to come out of Alberta, Canada and dip south to Arkansas and then turn 180 up the coast. This creates a big "trough" and the big Arctic high and this low get really close to each other and this causes the northerly wind to blow into the storm blowing it up into a hurricane and bringing the temperatures down under 20 degrees and making those sustained winds of over 35 mph. This hasn't happened since '83. ...Except the 1993 storm of the century but this one impacted the Appalachians, not the seacoast. Seacoast got rain and freezing rain on that one. But ...
